21st Century Civil War in America
America’s first Civil War took place in the 1860’s. It was a war over the right of freedom for black Americans. The second civil war in America is presently contending for the right of Americans yet to be born to live. Men and women died attempting to defend and protect
the Judeo-Christian values during America’s first Civil War. Today, men and women are struggling to protect and defend the pro-life battle continuing in our nation.

During the Presidential debate, Pastor Rick Warren of Saddleback Community Church, asked both candidates, “When does human life begin?” Republican nominee, Senator John McCain, unhesitatingly stated, “Human life begins at conception.” Unfortunately, Democratic nominee, Senator Barack Obama (now the President-elect) chose to say that he did not believe he had sufficient knowledge to make such a decision. Instead, he said he would leave that judgment for others to tell him when life begins and base his policies on their answer.

Why Should Abortion Matter to The Average American?
Whether one agrees that it violates the sixth commandment, “You shall not murder” in Exodus 20:13 (NIV) or not, there are a multitude of other significant reasons to consider abstaining from this practice. It is apparent that it is not an act of murder in the minds of those who voted for Senator Obama to become the President of the United States. However, if the value of human life is subjective and based on whether one is wanted, needed, loved or convenient, then there is no objective standard for determining the value of a human life. The question, then, is who else falls into this category, and who should have the power to decide who lives?

For many Americans, the economy is the primary focus at the center of the abortion issue.

If the economy is the standard, then what about those who cannot afford to pay for the elderly? If one is not wanted, needed, loved or convenient, then it will not be long before Americans will vote to dismiss the elderly, handicapped and disabled. Euthanasia (the act of killing the elderly painlessly, especially someone suffering from an incurable illness) will make abortion look like a Sunday School picnic within the next decade. Presently, America’s Congress has no way to pay for health care. The question forthcoming will be, “What is a person’s life worth?” in regards to determining who lives and who dies.

Who will decide the issues of life and death? Politicians presently cannot come up with the funding for providing health care for the needs of the disabled. If Christians do not see the abortion issue setting a precedent for the future of lives in America, our value will basically be decided by a popular group of political bureaucrats. Today, more value is given to an animal, tree and bird than to the unborn child.

Abortion Affects America’s Economics
Abortion affects a country’s work force. There are 100 people waiting to adopt a child for every baby available in the United States. One out of five couples is unable to physically have children. One out of every three pregnancies in America will end in abortion. 50 million babies have been killed in the United States with the legalization of abortion since 1973. The Vietnam memorial which honors and lists the Americans who died is only two and one half football fields long. A memorial honoring the babies killed through abortion in America would be 66 miles long. If alive today, 28 million of those babies killed would be in the work force right now and half of them would have had children.

This slaughter of our unborn affects the immigration issue. It takes 2.1 children per family just to replace the babies being aborted, and this is whywe need immigration. There are not enough workers in our high tech society. In Japan, the government is paying the Japanese to have babies because there is regularly only one child born per family. In Europe, only 1.1 child on the average is born er
family. These countries are imploding. There needs to be 2.1 children per family to replace those dying for the economy to be stable. We are killing the future of our country as we selfishly continue to abort a million plus babies a year.

Abortion Affects Evangelism
Think about the following consequence. If life is not important and not based on the Biblical values which teach that God made each and every person in His own image, then who determines the value of human life? If, on the other hand, the government officially rejects this foundational pillar of our country, it will be left to the politicians to determine the worth and value of an individual.

Originally, America’s forefathers in government recognized that each person has a unique set of talents and abilities, and the Creator ndowed each one with inalienable rights. Our forefathers recognized these rights came from God and not the government. This belief has been the very foundation of our country and culture. If this foundational value becomes lost or unrecognizably eroded, America will suffer spiritual bankruptcy, and man will become a slave to the government with no rights. As the Bible teaches, “When the foundations
are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?” Psa.11:3 (NIV).

“Black People are Not Human”
The argument in the 1850s that even “good” people believed and practiced was, “You may notwant to own a slave, but do not impose your morals on me. Do not try to tell me how to live.” President Abraham Lincoln responded, “A house divided cannot stand.”

What have we done when we have a chance to make a difference?

The 7 to 2 vote by the Supreme Court in 1857 decided that Dred Scott, who was a slave, but lived in the free state of Illinois, could never become an American because of the color of his skin. In other words, the United States Supreme Court decided that a black person was not human because of the color of his/her skin. This forced the Civil War.

This is no different today as America’s Supreme Court in 1973 voted that the unborn are not human until they are outside the womb. The result is that America is killing the most innocent and helpless human beings. Those from Planned Parenthood (proabortion) would argue, “They are women’s property (like the slave owners), and they can be disposed of if women want to dispose of them.”

Abortion is Never the Answer
Someone might argue, “What about rape?” Government statistics submitted by Planned Parenthood have only reported that 1.2% of pregnancies are caused by rape or incest, and those related to health and the life of the mother are less than 1%. Remember, there are 100 people waiting to adopt a child for every baby available in the United States. One out of five couples is unable to physically have children.

Why is the opposition so powerful? Because the abortion industry in America is a billion dollar industry. It will fight the pro-life movement with a vengeance as the slave owners did during the Civil War. Just as slaves were the livelihood of many, so it is with the abortionists and executives. 99% of the Planned Parenthood funds come from out-of-state.

Where is America Headed?
What is more important to America? Is it the economy, one’s comfort or the lives of a million innocent babies each year? Which is more important to God? In 1857, America was in its worst economic depression of the century. African Americans were considered as property, bought and sold. They had no inalienable rights (God-given.) America’s constitution stated that the government will be of the people, by the people and for the people.

Unfortunately, today, Americans are allowing the country to be governed by powerful government bureaucrats and Supreme Court Justices. America cannot survive as a country if Americans do not stop the destruction and killing of unwanted babies.

All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing.

What Can Christians Do?
Hosea 4:6 states, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” During the days of the American Revolution, George Washington encouraged his men with the statement, “The fate of the unborn millions will depend upon the courage and success of this army.” Later, Thomas Jefferson said, “The function of government is to protect human life. It is the only legitimate function of a good government.” President Roosevelt said, “We have the choice of preserving our Christian heritage and values or reverting back to barbarianism.” America is on the edge of a precipice.

I heard a story recently of a father who visited the Holocaust Memorial in Israel. The father and daughter walked through the memorial without saying anything for over two hours. At the exit, there was a registration book. The eleven-yearold girl jumped up on the stool and signed it with the comment, “Why didn’t someone do something?”

Have the courage to stand up and be supportive. The Christian community has to come to the aid of the pro-life movement. Edmund Burke said, “All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing.” Pray for God to close the abortion clinics and support your local Right to Life chapter. Christ asks, “What are you doing for the least of these?” Do you have an answer for Him? Let’s make a decision to respond when we have a chance to make a difference.
